Spreadsheet Basics for Quattro Pro 7.0

When you launch Quattro, you should see the application window at the top of the screen and a document window below. (These may be hard to distinguish if both the windows are maximized.) The application window area contains five rows or lines of command menus which can be used to act upon the information found in the document window. These command menus display command words and buttons. These menus include the title bar (at the very top) followed by the menu bar, Toolbar, Power Bar, and the input line. The command menus on the application window bars are listed and described below.

Title Bar

Displays the name of the application "Corel Quattro Pro" and the control icon on the far left, and the minimize/ maximize, and close buttons on the far right. These are standard Windows 95 features, and you can consult the Windows 95 manual or help for additional information.

Menu Bar

Displays the main level commands. These commands can be executed with a click of the left mouse button; then additional command options are presented in pull-down menus. The commands FILE, EDIT, VIEW, WINDOW, and HELP are common menu commands found in many other Windows 95 applications. The FILE command will be the primary command you will use in this introductory lesson.

Toolbar

Displays graphic icon buttons which can be mouse clicked to initiate shortcuts to many common commands. The actions performed by the Toolbar buttons are also found in the menu bar/pull-down commands located above this Toolbar. Because of this redundancy, there are often several ways to initiate a command. The function of each of these buttons can be viewed before it is initiated by moving the mouse pointer on top of the button. Descriptive text will be displayed to explain the function of that button. When you click on the button, the command action will occur or you will be given other command options in a dialog box. The first four buttons are basic, and you will use them in this introductory lesson. They are listed below.
